Playing Catch up

There has been complete radio silence here on the blog for a few months.  We didn't really get going until May but once we did it was crazy for a few weeks.  We had 11 in four weeks not to mention a few showers and birthdays to do as well so blogging has fallen behind in a big way.

But, there is a little bit of rest on the horizon with only one wedding next weekend and then a totally  unheard of WEEKEND OFF so I should have time to catch up and showcase some of our beautiful brides and their blooms.

First up is our very own Liz's wedding!! This event was major for a few reasons and not just because of it's size.  There were a ton of pieces to make and combined with being the MOH as well as the florist I was running around like a loon trying to get it all done and ready for the big day.  But just as these things always so,  it came together in the end and she said that the decore looked just like she had pictured it in her head.  From a florist's point of view that's exactly what you're going for!

We have to say a huge thank you to Chair-ish Your Moments for being such a helpful resource for us.  Sandy provided all of the linens as well as the crystal globe rentals and the up lighting for the ceremony and reception.  She was so accommodating and her prices were exactly what we had in mind so overall she was a great vendor to work with and her linens and rentals completed Liz's picture perfectly.

Another vendor we were so happy to work with was Jennifer from Jennifer Price Photography.  Jen shot my own wedding almost seven years ago and has done all our family and newborn portraits since.  I've been in couple weddings as an attendant with her too and we knew that we would get nothing but stunning images from her.  I am still picking new favorites from our wedding and had a new one printed just last year!  She posted a huge sneak peek on her facebook page that showcases Liz's beautiful Vera Wang dress and the love and excitement of the day.  Check it out because there are 50 Pics to look at and I just can't post them all here.

It's a grey kind of day

That's right, it's a grey day today.  In fact it's been a very grey day here in Winnipeg almost all week.  So instead of being outdoors we have been hanging out inside for a loooong time.  To pass that time I started planning my second wedding. Not actually planning a second wedding but imagining what choices I would make if I were to do it all over again.

We were married almost six years ago and even now I am still pretty happy with all the choices we made.  I wasn't a florist back then, not even close but I was "into" weddings already and it was pretty easy to narrow down all our choices. The only one of those choices I would change is the colour scheme.  We ended up going with dusty purple, cream and black and if I got a do over I would change out the black for........(drum roll please.......) Grey.

It's such a chic alternative to black which is very heavy.  When you are taking in a whole room your eye automatically stops on all that is black where as grey is much more complimentary to almost every shade and lends a bit of a lighter touch.

It can be paired with so many other colours but here is a round up of my faves:


Yellow is a wedding colour that is not used nearly enough, in my opinion.  It can be a bit hard to pair with some of the neutrals though because with black it looks a bit like a bumble bee and chocolate brown and yellow is traditionally a fall theme.  The picture below can be mixed up so that the bride carries the bright blooms and her maids get more neutral whites for a stunning contrast in pictures.

 For a fresh and modern bride pear green and grey just might be the ticket.  This combo would look great in an outdoor setting like the Leo Mol Sculpture garden, but would work indoors too.

  For the sophisticated bride a grey and cream pallet would be very Sarah Richardson.  This look is for the ultra modern bride that wants to have a classically beautiful and high end feel.  Add a bit of crystal or bling for sparkle and you've got yourself a hit.

And finally, my favorite option. Grey and purple. I would likely go with a lighter shade of lavender instead of the bright grapes but either or would work. The great thing about purple is that almost every flower comes in at least one shade, usually more! It's easy to pair with a silver or dove grey for spring and summer and noting beats lilac and Charcoal for an very non-Christmas feeling winter wedding.

A true love story......

Take a look at our bride, Tamara.  Her and her now Husband Gary were married this past fall. I got the chance to work with Tamara to plan her wedding day blooms as well as with her mom on the shower and they were both a complete pleasure. 

I have always been worried that somehow I would get into a car accident while transporting a bride's precious flowers so I drive extra careful when I have them with me.  Wouldn't you know it, while I was driving around with a car full of peacock feathers and birds of paradise a woman rear-ended me.  Everyone came through fine, the blossoms looked beautiful and the car only needed minor repair. I guess now that I have lived through the unimaginable I can relax and not worry about it. YA RIGHT!

Everything worked out in the end and we wish Tamara and Gary years of health and happiness.
